Using CS2 v. 9.0.2. I first scanned my signature in black and white, and saved it as a tif image. Now I would like to paste this into my photo, make the background transparent and change the color and transparency of the black signature.

Tried inverting the black/white image and adjusting transparency of the white signature, which works, but prefer a different color. In this first instance the inversion is fine because the area of the photo where signature goes is already black, but that is not always the case; I would like to adjust the color of the signature on a white (transparent) background.

Any help appreciated.

take the scanned image. select the white (magic wand or select color command). delete it. save as an image format that supports transparency. then you can use it anywhere you want.

dave, and Jack…

Have a read here:
Peel Off White for Macs, AlphaWorks for Windows both Freeware <http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.3bc34571>

Magic Wand selection or Color Range for getting rid of white is sooooo last millennium! 😉

The "Peel Off White" plugin even works better than the Advanced Blending Options in Layer Styles, in many cases (although it’s destructive, unlike Blending Options).

Try:

1 – White text on a Black background (you may need to use two separate layers then merge down or merge visible to get them on one layer OR invert the black signature on a white background) then

2 – change blend mode to difference.

Why?

Under difference blend mode black is transparent and white text will appear as inverted colour of whatever is behind it (eg differenced white text will appear as red on a green background). It is also dynamic in the sense that should the signature be moved then the colour inversion will be recalculated.

To sum up:

There are dozens of ways to do this, and many different ways for your your signature image to appear when your image is flattened for output.

If you could post some links to examples of what you want to do, the answers can be more focused.
