I’ve just downloaded cs3 but haven’t opened yet. Will actions created in cs2 be available automatically in cs3 or will I have to somehow move them from cs2 to cs3? Thank You. Mike

Danny,
Thanks so much for the info. I just learned how to spell Photoshop yesterday and I have a ways to go yet. A horrible thought occurred to me. Do I have to do the same for my preferences and color settings etc. Thanks again. Mike

Hi Mike:

Glad I was able to help a little…I can spell, "Photo." Still working on the rest. 🙂

Buried under the covers is what’s known as PS’s ‘Preferences’ file. It is in this file that PS preferences are saved and read. This file is ‘hidden’ unless you’ve told Windows to "show" hidden files. In a perfect world CS3 could use your CS2 file, but…

It is not unusual for Adobe to add to Preference dialog options/settings with a new version, so there’s a high likelihood the prefs file from CS2 is NOT upward compatible with CS3. I’ve not lept to CS3 so I cannot say for sure, but I’d bet that a trip through the CS3 prefs dialog to spell things out for CS3 is in your future.

I’d also speculate there’s no easy way to port color settings, but cannot say for sure.

Since this thread is titled "actions," I’d suggest you start another thread to attract attention, title it something like:

"CS2->CS3: How do I convert Prefs and Color Settings?" …and accompany with appropriate text.

You’ll get definitive responses in short order.

Danny,

Just another quick thank you. I’ll just pull up my boots and take a stroll through the new Preferences dialog etc.. Should you hear a scream at 3am its probably just me trying to force my computer through my window. Mike
