After I moved my Adobe Photoshop 7.0 [serial number deleted by forum host] (purchased from Adobe via download as an upgrade to my Adobe Photoshop 4.0) from my old Windows XP computer to my new Windows Vista computer, and launced it, I got this message: "Could not complete your request because of missing or invalid personalization invormation." What do I need to do to correct this problem?

For starters you can realize the PS 7.0 predates Vista by several years and is not recommended or supported.

That said, how exactly did you "move" Photoshop to this new machine?

Well, the first thing I wouldn’t do is broadcast your serial number in an open Internet user-to-user forum that’s echoed to newsgroups.

Second thing would be to define "move," which could mean that you copied files OR that you ran the installation program on the new box.

Third would be to call Adobe support, which I think still gives free advice for installation issues, even for several generations old software.

Bob,

First thing…never post your serial number online. Treat it like cash and keep it safe.

The error you got usually results from not having performed a proper installation and entering your user name & serial number. So, assuming you did do that all correctly, the the problem may be a Vista incompatibility with PS7. Hopefully someone else knows a definitive answer on that.

Meanwhile, I suspect one of the forum administrators will soon delete your serial number. However, if you still have edit privileges on your post, you should do so yourself.

Regards,

Daryl

Thanks for the tips and thank for removing my s#. By move, I mean that I simply copied the exe file from my old hard drive to my new hard drive. My Vista is 32 bit by the way. I don’t have an installation disc because I purchased PS7 as a download from Adobe as an upgrade to my
4.0. How do I insert my user name and the serial number onto my new hard drive in a absence of an installation disc?

I don’t remember PS 7.0 being available as a download but that’s neither here nor there…without the actual installation media you’re not going likely to be able to pull this off.

With the time and effort that you’ll waste you’re far better off buying the CS3 upgrade which is certified by Adobe to run under Vista.

The Photoshop.exe or the file you originally downloaded?

It’s the download file you need to copy across, unzip, and then run setup.exe from the folder it was extracted to.

Don’t count on anything more than a year old working on Vista…

But what exactly is your problem… version and serial number don’t explain that to the forum readers.
