I am running PS7 on WinXP. When I choose ‘save as’, wanting to, say, save a JPEG as a PSD file, PS is retaining the original extension and then adding .psd. In other words a jpeg named jim.jpg, when saved as psd, becomes jim.jpg.psd.

This is weird and annoying. Is this caused by XP? I did not have this before running PS7 on W95.

Any advice would be helpful.

thanks.

Its a Windows thing. In any window go Tools/Folder Options/View

Remove the check from the box next to Hide Extensions from Known File Types

This should get things working for you.

nope that’s not it don. used to happen to me on my old system. it was gone when i upgraded and reinstalled everything, then last week it started happening again. I always show extentions. very strange. i had a thread about this several months back, but never found a fix.

That does not work. The first thing I did with my XP machine was to un-check that design bug/stupidity.
