Adobe Photoshop Elements Language Version: 5.0 (20061222.r.146) Operating System: Windows XP Version: 5.1 Service Pack 2

Photoshop Elemenmts 5 has been working fine since I purchased it, but recently I started getting the following error message when I tried to start the program in full edit mode:

"This application has failed to start becuase MSVCRT10.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem". Clicking OK 52 starts Photoshop and the program works further okay.

I have re-installed the application using the repair option, but this has not solved the problem.

Any idea how I can resolve this?

No. But someone in the Elements forum might. This forum is for the full version of Photoshop.

Hey Martin,
Couple of things from my past Photoshop experience:

I have seen/used the msvcrt10.dll file before when I used a plug-in called Ffactory in PSCS2 (I plug-in was from an earlier version of PS than that). I found .dll the file, at the time, in the PSCS2 ‘Goodies’ folder on the install disc. I dropped this into the program folder for PSCS2 to use it.
You might like to check (conduct a search) if the file exists on your PC…

Just recently, I had an auto-update on PSCS3 that seemed to corrupt my program. The pop up error window said much the same as yours ie. re-install program. I did the same as you, I tried a repair which did not fix my problem. I managed to clear the error finally by removing the program completely, and reloading it.

I wish you luck with Elements.

My thanks to Bruxist – while the dll was in the Elements program folder, Elements apparently either can’t use it or can’t find it at this location.

After removing all the plug-ins the error message no longer appeared showing that one of them was the culprit – a bit of detective work showed the offending plug-ins to be from Flaming Pear
(www.flamingpear.com) – once these were removed, the program worked fine.
