Photoshop CS3 Extended crashes at Building TWAIN menu items

Hi there. I’m REALLY new with this and Photoshop was working fine for a while, no problems, I was REALLY pleased with it. I never installed anything so I’m not quite sure what is wrong. But Photoshop CS3 won’t stop crashing when I try to start it.

First off, I have a WinXP Home PC with Intel Pent4 processor 3.4 GHz w/ HT 2 GB of RAM and a ATI Radeon x600 256 mb with HyperMemory. So I think my computer hardware shouldn’t be an issue.

I have no idea what TWAIN even is, I Googled the issue and came up with a topic on here about an Epson driver. I have a Dell printer, hence, no Epson driver (to my knowledge).

Please help!

XP Home could be your problem…it’s a watered down version of XP Pro

TWAIN is a standard for acquiring images from image scanners: an image capture API for Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh operating systems. The word TWAIN is not officially an acronym; however, it is widely known as a backronym for "Technology Without An Interesting Name". (Wikipedia)

Try either deleting any old drivers for scanners, etc….or installing drivers to update your devices

The fact that it is XP Home has no bearing on this.

The features lacking, compared with XP Pro, are not relevant to these symptoms.

As Christine said, if you have a scanner or all-in-one, uninstall the software and re-install or get an updated version from the web.

Before that, try resetting your preferences as decribed in the FAQs <http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.ef4a07f/1>

So your suggestion is to remove my Dell AIO drivers and reinstall them?

Alright, I did that and everything loaded perfectly, hopefully when I go to hook my printer back up and it installs it’s drivers, there wont be a problem, because there wasn’t a problem until I updated the driver. The driver that came WITH the printer that installs when you hook it up seems to not have any issues.

Sometimes the latest driver is not the best 🙁

Just to weigh in, I am having exactly the same problem, and I have the Dell AIO driver with an all-in-one Photo 924. At least now I know what the problem is …
