I cannot find this problem enywhere in help, FAQ or anywhere else, so I have to ask:

I have an old system on Windows XP with Photoshop CS. I bought the CS2 upgrade but never installed it because of iunstability problems. Now I have a new PC with Vista Ultimate and wanted to install the CS2 upgrade, The wizard looked for an older version, obviously did not find one and kicked me out. No options for giving the serial number of the older Photoshop version or something. Then I tried to install CS, but my systen stopped working. I had to reset on order to get the CD out! Vista problem with CS??? Anyway, that, too, is an upgrade for an even older PS version, so I expect problems there as well.

Now how do I install a legal upgrade to which I am perfectly entitled, on a new system that does not have the old version on it??? I would have expected that the set-up Wizard could deal with that problem, but no, apperently not. Thanks for any help.

Thank you for any help.

You seem to have tried all the usual methods. Normally, if you run an upgrade installer, and it doesn’t detect a qualifying version, it will prompt you to insert a valid Photoshop CD (which can also be an upgrade).

Otherwise call Adobe. Installation help is not charged for.

Neither CS nor CS2 is supported under Vista. That said, try this:

Copy the CS2 installer to your harddrive and put the CS CD in the DVD drive. Run the installer from the harddrive.

I do seem to remember issues with CS2 no seeing prior media version if you used a DVD drive. For those issue a call to Adobe was needed.

I don’t know how long free installation support goes on after a new version is released.

John, thank you! I had not thought of putting both CDs in the PC at the same time and your comments gave me the idea-. CS2 now installed. GREAT!!!

I stopped CS2, started it again and had to register again. Then the updater, which i had used some minutes before, started working, but this time in German, thoug I run CS2 in ENglish. Why can’t it just work so I can get on with my pictures??? AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!

OK I reinstalled everything, it still did not work. Then I used the Vista possibility of repairing the programs, it still did not work. The I tried to reinstall bridge separately, but a file adb38B7.tmp was apparently missing. I could not find it anywhere on my PC or on the CD. I tried to repair Bridge separately, no way. Then I tried the possibility "change" and it did seem to go on without any danger. At the end, it siad it was installing bridge. OK, I thought I had done that, but let it go. And…. it works!!!
