Hi There, could use some help if you can. Running Photoshop version 5.0 on Windows XP with Microsoft Outlook 2003. Whenever I use Photoshop, my Outlook program freezes/crashes. This only happens to Outlook and only when using Photoshop.

Not sure where to start but if you have any suggestions, I’d appreciate the help.

XP was a mere twinkle in Bill Gates’ eye when PS5 was first released. I’m surprised you got it to run at all!

I am surprised, Dave. I’d have thought it would at least have needed "Compatibility Mode".

Did the earlier versions of Photoshop have Preferences (to trash)? I joined the game at PS6.

they did but it’s not the same file name or key combo as it is now. maybe len remembers. i seem to remember him answering the last 5.0 prefs question…

I think it was 5.5 or 6.0 that switched to the now normal prefs file and crtl-alt-shift reset scheme…

In Versions prior to 6 it was photos*.ini (the file will be called photos followed by the version number – i.e photos55.ini for Photoshop
5.5, photos40.ini for Photoshop 4.0)

This info is in the delete preference FAQ – Forum FAQs FAQ#2

I remember there used to be a conflict with Outlook and Photoshop on Mac. The fix had something to do with setting a password in Outlook. Wish I could remember more.

Do you HAVE to use Outlook? A piece of you-know-what in my opinion.

A piece of you-know-what in my opinion.

Absolutely, but some businesses have used it ever since it came with Office 95 and can’t bear the hassle of migrating all those records.

I never used it 🙂

I use it exclusively for email and have since Office 97. I find it quite nice myself.

email, contacts, calendar, appointments, job sheets (Tasks), outgoing phone calls via one click, mail merge (with Word), etc…

All the views (forms) are fully customizable, you can add your own fields including calculations.

If I want to see all letters, emails, phone conversations (with notes if I made them at the time) appointments and tasks for a particular client, I just click "Activities" and it finds and orders them all.

You can integrate it with Access and Excel. I have my customer details synchronized with Quick Books.

Outlook is a much underrated piece of software. Now I’ve got to know it, I really wouldn’t be without it.

I’m sure it’s great if you need/want all that stuff, but if it’s gonna freeze with Photoshop that is a problem. Where I used to work the suits forced us to use Outlook (2001 I think) because they loved all that stuff, but it caused so much havoc to us in the (Mac based) Art Department that it became a rebellion. Everyone just turned it off. They finally let us switch to Thunderbird. Not so much of that Office junk, but it worked and didn’t interfere with Photoshop.

As I said, there was a solution that had to do with setting passwords, but I don’t remember what it was and don’t know if it would be relevant in a Windows environment.

My photoshop is on a dedicated machine. I do, however, still have cs2 installed on the other machine (just in case) and I’ve never noticed any confilcts with Outlook.
