After installing I scanned a picture and experimented. (On high resolution scan (1200) some filters [water color, pencil] would not load – period… ???)
Next day I wanted to continue and rescan the picture. Not only did PS fail to load the Twain driver, but when receiving from the scanner it would hang to the point that it can not be closed, only "killed". That leaves something in the system, so other programs can not open the scanner now, they report it is used by an other program.
The event viewer in Application will show "Application Hang". I would much prefer my competed pictures to hang rather than Photoshop. I tried everything, now I am probably reinstalling CS2. I will do a test install on a different computer but any input would be appreciated.

That is probably because you scanned at 16 Bits/Channel.

For the other problem I would un-install and re-install the scanner software.

Hi Joslin,
My fault. Should have added that exploring and writing in to forums don’t come easy for me. First, I did a repair reinstall of Photoshop, and a total reinstall of the updated scanner software.
Also maybe you missed the point, that the program (PS) started acting up the NEXT DAY. Meaning that on first try the next day the scanner software would not come up. If you still think that this can be due to any setting I used the previous day please elaborate. (The previous day whatever setting I used – it still scanned… next day did not even load and hung… (This program is not responding…) It was shut down in between…
Thanks for your kind input,
Georg

To Joslin #2

I see, you mentioned the 16 bit for the filter issue… Hm. ? I dinnot toch a thing… all the other filters worked on the same photo… except for like 3. ??? Loaded a jpeg picture to check, same filters worked there.

Some filters only work with 8-bit images. JPEGs are 8-bit. If your scanned image is a 16 bit image, that’s why the filters don’t work.

As John said, try uninstalling your scanner software, then reinstalling it. Better yet, check the scanner manufacturers website for updated software.

Thank you Rick,
Now I understand the filter issue, will test it accordingly, thank you.

As far as the scanner goes as I mentioned, I reinstalled the latest driver from the WEB. It works with every other software including Acrobat. The only one that will not load it and actually will crash is CS3 Photoshop. And apparently it leaves a process running, which I can not figure which one. I have to restart the computer to get the scanner working.
The fax wizard reports it is busy – that is where my info comes from. This is of course for anyone intent on brainstorming…
Thank you all in anticipation,
George
PS: When I click Import/Twain a small window will come up loading the software, than the scanner kicks in with a warm-up run, and then the main window should open up. That is the point where it hangs and the main window does not come in from the scanner. At the same time PS goes in non-responding mode.

Can you run the scanner software as a stand-alone application? In other words, don’t use it via a TWAIN driver in Photoshop. Start it up separately and save the image as a TIF, then open it Photoshop.

It’s less convenient, but I bet it would be a lot more stable.
