The product license has expired

I have JUST downloaded a trial version of Photoshop CS3 (Extended) and installed it on my Windows XP SP2 machine. When I try to launch it, a pop-up text appears saying “The product license has expired”.

I must emphasize that this is the first time I have installed on this machine so the 30 days limit is not applicable. Now does anybody know what is happening here?

I hope 30 days does not mean 30 seconds!!

Any ideas which registry key or keys I need to tweak to make this monster work before I buy the retail version?

Thank you.

Dave, you should read all the posts you can find on here as to install problems. I believe there were some problems with clocks.
I also must warn you that I had a beta pre-release of the software (on XP Pro machine) and was never able to de-install all parts so that the full package would install. Heavy duty new anti-pirating stuff in the installers that even the Adobe experts couldn’t help me with other than eventually the suggestion of wiping the hard drive. I installed on a new computer instead, after many, many, many hours of wasted time.
You may want to check and see if anyone is having problems de-installing the "trials" so that the "full" version installs before you create an irreversible problem with the current installers. Supposedly there is a fix being worked on, but I haven’t heard any news on a time frame yet.

A lot of people had the beta (I read 500 000 somewhere) and there have not been that many complainers.

Obviously there is something going wrong on a few machines but the majority of users seem to have managed to install CS3. It is incredibly slow but, for most, it gets there (and works!)

The tech I talked to at Adobe (3+ weeks ago) said he’d been on the phone with people with my problem all day long and sounded very frustrated. I do not know that it’s a large percentage, but if you are depending on it for your business and it stops production on you, even the small percentage of a chance can give you pause for thought. Just trying to give people the information so that they have the option to risk it or not.

After trying everything given in the kb402003 (the link provided earlier) It still didn’t work. However, it looks like that photoshop CS3 is in conflict with Photoshop CS2.

I have now decided not to waste any more time on this crap program. It takes about an hour to install the monster and another 1 hour to uninstall it!.

If Adobe wants my custom then they need to fix this pretty quick before I start exploring alternatives.

There may be half-million people satisfied with the product but I am more concerned about my own livelihood. It is no good for me if somebody else is quite happy with the crap product.

Thank you for all the input.

Just thought I’d put in my 2 cents worth [approx. value of PS CS3]. I have the same problem.
I uninstalled it [one hour is rather optimistic – I went to bed after 2 and a half hours and it was still uninstalling!!] and reinstalled it [Oh why did I bother???!] onto an external drive – on the off chance I could get it past any gremlins left in the registry; it didn’t work.
I, to, thought I’d explore the "wonders" of PS CS3 in the 30 day trial – all I have gotten is 30 hours of frustration.
I’m sticking with PS 7; CS2 takes too long to start up [one of the reasons I went for CS3 – supposedly quicker to start – lmfao]- at least it works.
BTW, I even explored the software cracking forums to see if they had a fix [resourceful people, that they are] – I found a list of registry files to delete – but that would affect ALL Adobe products – too risky.
Funny thing, PS has always been rather low security – now they’ve gone over the top and even Adobe themselves can’t solve your problems.

You may have deleted some shared files. First thing to try is reinstalling PS 7.0.

I too downloaded a preview copy of CS3, but now that its expired, I went ahead and removed it, but now my PhotoShop 7 won’t run!!

Apparently when it ‘expired’ it took everything with it!!

I have been looking for a solution, but after reading a few forums, its not looking good.

….then download the 7.1 update.

….then go buy the CS3 upgrade – you know you love it!

well, you have about 16 months to get cs3 if you want to stay in the upgrade loop. adobe changed policy this release so that they’re only giving upgrade pricing for 3 versions back (currently vers. 7, until cs4 (v11) is released).

the following refers to Erwin van der Minne’s (now deleted) post:

Response to post # 8 – get a life;

You should have bought the "Extended" version. It comes with a "Sense of Humour" plug-in.

The serial number to end all serial numbers!

You’ve just lost any respect any of us might have had for you – and certainly any help which might have been forthcoming.

Already tried re-installing Ver 7. Still the same.

I suppose next I’ll try getting rid of ALL Adobe programs, then check manually that they have been deleted off of the machine and then go into the registry and purge that as well by hand, if nessary.

I still hate to change the clock a year back everytime when I have to use it….just too annoying. Anyway that can solve this problem completely?

Alice I have looked for help and can find NONE. Like I said I have tried everything Adobe has on their site to get rid of the demo program, so I can run my older version, but nothing helps. Even their ‘cleaner’ program will not get rid of everything.

Its begining to look like the ONLY way to get back to normal is a hard drive format!! And then to stay away from all future Adobe products and demos, until they get rid of the problems, if ever.

Sorry

Ed,

Installing the CS3 Trial shouldn’t have affected any previous version on the machine at all – you shouldn’t need to re-install a previous version.

Don’t know what to tell you Len. Photo7 worked great right up until the trial of CS3 expired. Then it would seem to run & load ok, then it would just disappear. Nothing.

Tried to clean off CS3 about 3 different times. And have done a reinstall of PhotoShop7 about 4 times now and it reacts the same way each time.

Its got me stumped….and apparently Adobe too. I have tried everything they have suggested and still nothing. I have tried getting a program to clean the registery and I have looked at it myself, trying to figure out what the problem is.

I’m at the brick wall.

lucapoulariani,

Every message you’ve posted has been a promotion of piracy. That may go over well in other areas but not here. One more message like that your access to these forums will be terminated.
