print limit on photoshop whit epson 9800……

hi all, thank you all for reading this first of all.

there is limitation i heard but i could print quite big signs…

my problem is, i have 2 print company branches, in one of them i can print directly from my photoshop cs2 to epson 9800 even 1 metre by 8 metre 100dpi images.
but in my ne branch i have set up the same system but i can not print larger then 2 metres tiff files from photoshop cs2. it gives me the program error.
the funny thing is while i can print those whitout rip software in my other shop, the epson service tells me that it is impossible to print from photoshop that big images.

so how can i do that in somewhere else, the same system, same "me", but i can not do it here?
could you help me, i know that it is better to use rip, but i only print signs so i do not need to spend extra minimum 600 pounds when i can just print.

The limit is 30,000 pixels (in any one direction) so I’m guessing the image is a little short of 8 metres or less than 100 ppi

Have you checked using the same file? Again, is it possible the resolution of this file is inadvertently greater than 100 ppi?

The other thing to check is that you haven’t got a "Scale to fit media" clicked somewhere in the print dialogue which may be overriding the input file settings?

The normal printing limit is 30,000 pixels*. If my math and metric is right, 8 meters = 240 inches (or so), and at 100 dpi you should be well under the limit.

Check for different print drivers in the two shops, and possibly different settings on the computers.

There is a 300,000 pixel format as well (PSB), but many (most?) printers cannot deal with it.

yea but does this 30.000 pixel limit cover 314" by 44" in 100 dpi image? that is the one i can print whit no problem, and adobe tells me something about 90" limit which is far shorter than what i am printing, also i have cheked everything ram-os-cpu-cable.. etc. everything is same. now i use qimage ,cause it has bigger buffer memory i guess, now i can print, but why should not i be able to print dirctly from ps.

At 1,400 pixels over the limit, that should not print without some sort of RIP software taking over the task.

I don’t know the 9800, but as I asked in post #1: could a "Reduce/Enlarge to fit media" setting in your print driver be dropping the ppi? It would only have to drop to 95ppi to accomodate that particular job.

Don’t know who told you that one. They must have been thinking in terms of a 320ppi resolution

but that would not change alot isn’t it?i can not even print anything over 2 metres (lets say 2mt by 1mt. 100 dpi.), while i need to print around 8 metres.

Check your printer resolution. The 9800 normallly has a native 360 dpi, but I think if you print at lower print resolutions, it may default to a lower res. It’s not just the number of pixels in the file, it’s also how many dots the printer is spitting out.

changed 2 things in my printer settings, they are called (page rendering mode) (coarse rendering). the print works at the moment but because of my poor english, i did not really understood those options. could you basicly tell me? would they cause anything in the future?
