If I have PS CS3 open and then open IE7, PS just disappears. No error or anything. Running XP Home SP2 latest.

This just started to happen within a week or so. I have both set to auto update so don’t know whether a change has been made to either.

Must be extra careful to save work before opening an Internet Explorer window.

HELP Please!!!

Well someone had to say it. Why fight it?

It’s a much better browser, certainly faster.

This isn’t much help either Ron, but I’m running IE7 with no PS CS3 conflicts. One thing you might try is launching IE7 without the addons, from the related shortcut that I believe is in the System Tools submenu. If that doesn’t kill PS CS3, you could then selectively enable whatever add-ons you might have, and see if any of them cause PS CS3 to crash. If so, perhaps that will have identified the culprit.

Like dave, I use IE only for MS sites — and my office’s Outlook Web Access and a handful of other sites that aren’t standards-based. Firefox is much better for my use.

Back to the crashing, though: Some people have found that the MS media player interferes with PS if it’s running before PS, but not if it’s started after PS. Is it possible that some IE add-in preloads WMP?

Ever since I learned just how customizable Firefox is, and also how I like some of the extensions such as one where you selectively control script blocking on a site-by-site basis, I’ve found I do really like Firefox. However, and in spite of not being too fond of how MS redesigned the toolbar area of IE7, I continue to use it as my browser of choice. More than likely it is just habit, but for the most part I have nothing bad to say about it, or Microsoft for that matter. In fact, to the contrary and unlike some who just seem to be MS-bashers (not implying anyone here, just a generalization), I’d definitely sit on the Pro-MS bandwagon. And yes, I like Adobe too, but some of the things that slip through in a product release sure challenge my thoughts at times. I can’t believe the "microzoom" level of a file opened in PS CS3 made it into the released product, much less the window-grabbing main window. But, that’s off-topic for this thread, so I’ll shut up.

Ron = Tried this with all the latest updates and have no problems. Can’t dupe the issue, so I would start by turning off half of your browser addins and see whether it still happens, then try the other half (similar to the ‘bad PS plugin detection method’).

Chances are good that it’s a bad browser multimedia addon.

Others (the ‘Firefox’ brigade) = When someone asks for help, keep your religions to yoursleves and just anser the query please? IE, FF, Opera…who gives a good damn! I’m so sick and tired of seeing FF vs IE, Mac vs. PC, Linux vs. Everyone else…..unless someone is asking for your opinion on what platform they should use, keep your snarky comments to yourself.

This is the real world, where offices and users use platforms other than the one ‘you think is best’ and as designers you should already know that. As a web professional, I don’t get to choose which browser my clients’ audience uses, nor would I want to. I write code that works on BOTH IE and FF – imagine if you told your AD, "Well the reason this doesn’t look right is because you need to print it on A4 paper! A4 *is* the superior paper size, after all…only feebs and Americans use ‘Letter’!!!"

See how stupid that sounds?

Geez…

Daryl,

Removing addins to IE7 seemed to do it. Had two for latest Sun Java.

What has happened to your buttons thing for PS? Have a CS3 version?

Thanks for the help.

Ron,

Glad to hear that exploring the addins resolved the problems.

As for the Photobars, they died with Adobe’s rearchitecture of the PS CS2 menus. Unfortunately Adobe changed something in their code that no longer allowed that old Extensis code to "hook in" and provide the toolbar functionality. I sure wish someone would develop and provide such a plug-in for Photoshop again since Adobe still fails to see the value of providing customizable toolbars.

"I can’t believe the "microzoom" level of a file opened in PS CS3 made it into the released product,"

Do you mean being able to zoom out to, say 0.5%, for example?

I can see this being quite useful for people working with panoramas or other gigantic images.

I can’t imagine it results in much extra footprint in the application’s coding, but it certainly adds some useful functionality.

Phos,

Just as when I posted my comment yesterday, I’m not at home right now to quote specifics based on PS CS3 observations, but what I’m referring to is how CS3 opens files at a fractional zoom level on the order of 0.2%, rather than the more normal view levels of 33-50% or so. It is just annoying to have to select View Print Size or Fit Pixels each time I open an image. No dobut however, that variable zoom levels over a wide range are indeed useful.

there’s some funkiness i haven’t nailed down with the palettes or panels, whatever!) daryl. try opening a file when you’re in palette hidden mode and you’ll see what i mean.

I still see a problem zooming an image past 3/4 of the screen when my palettes are open (and all on the 2nd monitor!) but if i hit tab first, to hide the palettes, then zoom, the image window fills the entire 1st monitor. weird.
