I just installed my new version of CS3 and am making the transition from CS2. With CS2, I had quite a few plugins that I liked to use. So my question would be, what is the best way to port over those plugins and ensure that they work? Thanks much.

During the alpha and beta, almost all of the manufacturers had supplied us (testers and engineering) with functional plug-ins. Towards the end — around Feb — most had them working. If the plug ins you need aren’t working, there are very likely to be updates from the people who wrote them.

Hope this helps, and thanks for participating!

So within the software, do I need to set a path for plugins if I go this route? As you may know, some plugins actually install while others you just dump into a plugins directory. With that ones that have an installer, they typically want to point to the plugins folder underneath PS. Is there a work around for this? Thanks much.

reinstall them, unless you’ve already got them in a seperate folder from cs2’s plugings.

the best way to do plugins and other 3rd party enhancements is to load them in a seperate folder (like c:\myPlugins or something) that way they don’t need to be reinstalled for each new version, you can just point secondary plugin path in the preferences to that folder.
do NOT point it at cs2’s plugins folder as the different versions of adobe plugins will conflict and cause crashes!

best thing to do is reinstall your plugins in a seperate folder. it’s the last time you’ll need to! 🙂
