Hi

I have a lot of database experience, basic web page creation skills (F Page) and very poor graphics skills. I have a static site developed in FP (ie not connected to database), with most pages and content completed. Some changes will be needed.

I have a database which needs implemented on the web, all pages (apart from home) will be ‘forms’ which will display information from the DB and give the user various options from radio buttons and drop down lists.

I have found a developer who has demonstrated his programming skills, but his design / graphic skills are no better than mine.

I will therefore need someone who can design the graphics elemement.

I am trying to understand who comes first – the photoshop expert creating graphics / slices to give to the developer to insert into his dreamweaver pages / tables. Or does the developer need to create precise pages / tables, with all text, buttons and drop down lists, which the designer then creates graphics to match.

If anyone can give me any insight into who does what / when, I would appreciate it.

Thanks ColinK

Colin –

While you really can go either way, it would probably be better to start with the overall design first. Theoretically you should be able to work the db output into a good design by simply placing the variables or tokens (that represent your data output) in the right places in the layout.

But KNOWING where the right places will BE necessitates having a good layout planned.

I’m sure you’ll get varying opinions on this, and this one is just mine, but I do a lot of work with content management systems and templates so it comes from experience.
