Is Photoshop CS3 (or any/all of the Web Premium applications) optimized to utilize an Intel Quad Core Processor in a Windows environment?

we’ve been told by the engineers that it’s been optimized for multi-processors for several versions now. this includes the dual and quad core systems on the market today.

Awesome. Thanks.

The problem wit that test is I couldn’t find any details on what the "filter" was. some of the filters havn’t been updated to be properly threaded, but in general Yes CS3 is well threaded for Quads. Sometimes Duals will out do Quads because their raw speed is a little higher.

The problem with tomshardware test is that he is only applying a set of filters to a picture. As we know Photoshop is more than just applying filters.
And don`t forget, if Bridge is doing something in the background (for example updating some thumbs of the pics you`ve just processed in PS ….. or processing RAW files!) the Quad will outperform everything.

yes, that’s most probably the reason. But it’s good to remember things like that after all this marketing people hype about threaded progs

Stefan I agree but you want to start running tests with multiple apps you need to run it several times with tightly controled conditions. Bridge isn’t that processor intensive, mostly disk intensive so it’s effect on a Quad VS Dual is minimal (it spends more time waiting for data from the drive than doing calculations loading the CPU by about 3-10% on a single core P4 3Ghz).

Hello,

I’m trying Photoshop CS3 with my new Quadcore Q6600 / 4GB Ram / Raid0 disks, but most of the filters are using only 25% of the CPU load.

Is there any solution to make the filters running faster on the Quadcore ? I really would enjoy using 100% of my CPU !

Olivier: What you are seeing is the average CPU utilization, if you look at the graph on the right you will see that the actual CPU utilization is all over the map. The filters do have to be re-written for more effective utilization, but having done that, by their nature they will never reach 100% utlilization (a solid line at 100%) which could freeze your system.
