I have an Epson 1270 printer. In the server section, there is a paper size of 11×17, but it doesn’t show as a choice in CS2 when I want to print.

Nor in the printer preferences. 11×14 is another that doesn’t show but is in the server choices. I know I have printed this size before but not for years and can’t figure out what to do.

In Page set up click on printer/properties and set your paper size up on your printer. This works in CS.

I am copying and pasting part of the original message:

"it doesn’t show as a choice in CS2 when I want to print."

I know how to select the page (paper) size, but as I said the 11×17 is not one of the choices, neither here in CS2 (nor if I go directly to printer in contrl panel)

It does show in server properties, as well as 11×14, but not as a choicke for the 1270 printer.

Rob:

What do you mean by "server properties"? If you check the printer driver properties you should see all the available page sizes the printer supports. I’m not sure what you mean when you talk about the "server."

Also, have you tried printing from another application? Does 11×17 show up as a choice there?

And, what operating system are you running?

I have a locally connected 1290, and in the Printer Properties, "US B 11 x 17" is listed in the paper size dropdown.

Sounds like your printer is connected to a server, not directly to your system?

It’s been while since I messed with this type of set up, but from memory, you can either install the printer drivers locally, and point them to the server printer, or you can just create a link directly to the server printer. The latter relies on the drivers on the server to do all the work.

I’ve no idea if this relates to your problem, but in the back of mind, I seem to recall that it can contribute to issues.

In windows XP, to create a few from size, you go to printers an faxes in the control panel. When you open this and check the file menu, server properties is one of the choices and this is where you can create new forms. This is also where I saw tested previously created ones named 11×17, 11×14, etc.

After talking to Epson, the problem was found to be that in the paper size section, there was no longer any "user defined" choice, nor any that had been previously created thus. It was necessary to delete and reinstall the driver and then I was able to recreate 11×17.

After getting off the phone then, I printed an 11×17. Unfortunately I noticed a single row of small black dots spaced about 1" apart running the length.
I tried with an 8×10 and also had this. A windows test page didn’t but subsequent test with photos on plain paper did for several. Then it seemed OK and I printed a couple of 8×10 on glossy with no problem. Then I reprinted the 11×17, which was a shot of an eagle taking off with a fish. And then the printer was out of ink, so that was that for now.

Well, there you go – I’ve been using XP for six years, and the File Menu in the Printer and Faxes menu is something I’ve never explored – it looks like the Server properties allows you to tweak the Windows XP Print Server engine to the various installed printers.
