I’m using windows xp2 pro; photoshop cs2, part of creative suite; 2gb ram.

I used photomerge from Bridge; it created my merged image, but when I go to open the saved composition – the pmg file – it states: ‘could not complete your request because of a program error’. Am I doing something wrong, or is it a clitch? Thanks in advance,

Do you mean png? It may be that Photoshop is having trouble recognizing the extension?

No, the OP had the file extension right, (that’s the suffix for a merged photoshop file).

Killian can you create a merged file from within Photoshop using the ‘automate’ function and/or does this error occur just from within bridge?

SDA,

Yes, I realized that. That’s why I modified my answer and said disregard previous.

SDA: I recreated a merge in photoshop, using automate: same problem.

Ed: my first time to use photomerge! I was attempting to open the pmg from photoshop>file>open

Hm OK Can you open the actual saved composition. I’m not exactly sure of this, but perhaps the .pmg file is just a pointer to the actual composition. When I have used this feature in the past it saved both a pmg file and the merged file with a *psd extension.

OK, what confused me was the ‘program error’ message when I attempted to open the file. Also, when I opened one of the photmerges in the .psd format, it did not open with the image as layers, but just one merge so I couldn’t edit further; but another has the image as the layers.
So, possibly a clitch somewhere, but now it seems to have resolved this. Thanks

There’s a place in the Photomerge dialog where you can specify if you want to preserve layers or not. Could that account for it?

I believe the pmg file only opens the composition in Photomerge, not the actual file(s).
