After opening a 16 bit tiff file in 7.0 (converted from HDR)I cannot open any of the Layers commands in the Layers drop down box (or via the palette). Once I change the mode to 8-bits I have no problem. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any advice!

If you want layers and 16 bit you’ll need to upgrade. I don’t think 7.0 supported it.

Using Photoshop 7.

Have to have at least 6 (CS) to get Layers in 16 bit.

Your a little mixed up. If his version 7 does support layers for 16-bit and it doesn’t. Then switching to version 6 isn’t going to do it. Photoshop CS was version 8 not 6. CS should give him what he wants. However, if your going to fork out for an upgrade you might as well for to CS3 and get it over with. Assuming your computer can handle it.

Sorry. That was a typo. Of course I meant 8.

Thanks to all for your comments. I thought that might be the problem. I guess I’ll have to bite the bullet and upgrade to CS3

That bullet will get a lot harder to bite whenever CS4 comes out so you might just as well do it now. 7.0 is the earliest version eligible for upgrade pricing.
