Anyone helpme? I have Photoshop 5. I am using it to edit my digital pictures. I found that after editing (Changing image
brightness/contrast) I cannot save it back in JPEG(.jpg) or GIF format, I can only save in .PSD format.

Is there something Iam missing?

Appreciate any help.

Sam

You may have added an extra channel or a layer. JPEG and GIF do not support layers.

Flatten it and Save As.

If you do anything that creates a laye, you can only save in PSD format. If you create any channels, you can’t save in GIF or JPEG format as well.

Use the SAVE A COPY command in PS 5, rather than the Save As command. Save a Copy is used to save an image when you have created elements that that image format can’t accomodate; it flattens the file as it’s saved.

Or, you can use Save for Web.

Remember, though, that JPEG is lossy. When you save a JPEG, then open it and save it again, you degrade the image quality. If you care about quality, do not edit and re-save JPEG images! Keep a copy around in .psd format (or some other non-lossy format), and if you need to change the JPEG, go back to that .psd and make your changes there!
