Is it possible to resize a photo and it not become distorted. I am trying to get a pic that original size is 479 x 640 to 550 x 200. Thanks.

479/640 = 0.748
550/200 = 2.75

These are markedly different aspect ratios as indicated by the 0.748 vs. 2.25 values. If the values were identical, your resize would be distortion-free.

If you need to retain your complete image and not distort it, you will want to resize it down so the 640px dimension is reduced to 200px, a factor of 0.3125, which means the 479px will become approximately 150px. That is…reduce from 479×640 to 150×200.

Otherwise, you can resize up from 479 to 550 px, a factor of 1.148. This means your 479×640 image would be increased to 550×735 pixels, from which you’d have to crop off 535 pixels to keep the most important 200-pixel strip of your image.
