Well, you might try other formats from AICS2, like PDF, or an older AI version and see if CS3 can handle them.
This doesn’t answer the question of why PS won’t open your AI file, but for troubleshooting, what about opening the file in AI? Then use the Export option to save it in Photoshop PSD format. If that works, then maybe there’s some glitch in the AI file that prevents PS from opening it.
actually i just did a check on my other computer where photoshop is installed and this is what I found out:
1) it can’t open any illustrator files, i even tried files that I know i’ve created with illustrator 9.0.
2) it can’t even open pdf files etiher, the same effects happen as they do with illustrator files when i try to open pdf files in photoshop; it will freeze (hang) and not respond and the only way to close photoshop is to end it in task manager.
John Woram, i’ll try your idea and see if that works and give u an update on the details later.
Why don’t you ‘Place’ the illustrator file?
I never tried to open an illustrator file in Photoshop but I have placed them using File > Place…
However I just tried to open one and it worked, so there’s something wrong at your end.
Have you tried resetting your preferences?
I dont even mess w/ the preferences. remind me how would i even reset the preferences. i checked the preferences and it looked like there was nothing that had to do with opening other file formats such as illustrator files. i also when i tried placing the file and it resulted in photoshop freezing, not responding and hanging.
To reset your Photoshop preferences.
You cannot do this from within Photoshop.
Either press Ctrl+Alt+Shift as you start the program and confirm in the dialog which you must get or, in Windows Explorer, manually delete the .PSP files in:
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Adobe\… (Versions vary)
You will have to have your Folder Options View set to show hidden files and folders to find them.
An uninstall/reinstall will not do this as the preferences are not created until after the program is installed.
