Thanks,

That’s a trick question, isn’t it. There is no given shortcut (documented, at least) and you cannot assign an F-Key to Image Size without also carrying through the Image Size dialog – in other words, changing the image size. So, if you have a favorite image-size to accomplish routinely, then record the action and give it an F-Key – otherwise, no luck.

I was trying to avoid using actions in this project (somehow I like doing the finger dancing on the keyboard 😉
So would you mind telling me how to assign an F-key, lets say to Image Size including the dialog window?

Thanks

I certainly understand that.

One way is to create the action, and after you are done, double-click to the right of the title. A dialog box will pop-up which allows you to assign a function key to the action. At first it might seem limiting because you only have F2 to F12, but you can modify a function key by checking ‘shift’ and/or ‘control’ key modifiers. In fact, Photoshop won’t let you over-ride an assigned keyboard. Try it and you will see.

You could always put a breakpoint in the Image Size action after recording, to make it pause there while you enter the specs you want; the action won’t proceed until you dismiss the dialog.

How do you break out of the dialog to set a break point? Did you try that with an Image Size action? Version 7?

You make any keyboard shortcut under "Keyboard shortcuts". For me it’s Ctrl+Alt+i

I’m not sure what you mean by the first question; while recording the action it doesn’t matter what values are entered or other options chosen in the dialog — use a ‘dummy’ image or don’t save it afterwards. When finished recording, expand the action in the palette (if it’s not already) and click in the second column beside the Image Size step; little menu icons should appear there and beside the action name.

You can also put together actions without recording, by adding menu items from the palette. Again, once its list of commands has been assembled you can insert any breakpoints you need before actually running the action.

Yes, I’ve done this many times before — no, not with v7, but since it certainly works in both vv. 5.5 & 8 I think it would be very strange if it didn’t in the intermediate versions.

I thought that feature first appeared in CS.
