I have been asked by a magazine to submit some shots for an article. The shots I have lined up are currently 4000ppi scans and they have asked me to send files with a document size of A4 @ 300ppi – which I will do via PS7.

Instead of resizing them via the Image Size function, are there any disadvantages of using the Resize Wizard instead? it just seems quicker.

Your comments would be appreciated.

Colin,

It’s under the HELP menu; where it belongs <grin>.

How odd. Never noticed it there. Not what I’d expect under Help …

I tried it and don’t really have a clue what it did. I think I, for one, will stick to adjusting image size the "hard" way.

I never knew it was there either! And now that I’ve seen it, I can forget I ever did.

Did you notice the Transparency Wizard there?

"it just seems quicker. "

How exactly is going through 5 or 6 dialog boxes faster (or easier) than bringing up ‘image size’, plugging in your numbers and hitting enter?

Confused

David:

OK, the "help" you were after:
Yes, there are disadvantages – it doesn’t seem to be quicker [than using the image size adjustment, via an action for a batch]; also, I guess you can’t include it in an action and do a bunch of files automatically. Further to that, it’s rather unclear what it’s actually doing.

Hope that helps.

BTW, my slightly petulant tone comes from the experience that it is reading discussion like that above that teaches me most about PS.

For people that really don’t understand size and resolution and how they interact.

If you have approximately the correct number of pixels to do the job (regardless of size/resolution), avoid resampling and simply adjust resolution until you get the correct size.

You don’t have to deliver 300ppi as if that was some type of cardinal resolution that can’t be departed from in the least. A little this way or that way will be just fine (ie 250-350).
