hey, i am in the middle of building a website, and am trying to dig a bit deeper into photoshop for my image editing. check out this link : <http://www.cursivearmy.com> then visit the flash site. the background blk and wht images on the left have the look i am trying to obtain. kind of a rustic, slightly washed out and shadowed along certain edges deal.

if it is obvious to any of you what techniques were used to obtain this look in the images, any advice would be great. i cant get anywhere close on my own. here is one of the pictures i am trying to format this way. <http://www.almightyflyingmachine.com/images/screaming.jpg>

even when i just try and extract the two guys by their outline, i get a bad result, not at all smooth, and blending into a black background. thanks in advance for the help!

I checked it out. It’s harmless. It’s a band intro – he’s looking how to re-create the images used.

I don’t know the answer, but I can tell you that you are going to have a tough time with that image, depending on intent. Red eye is only ONE of the issues.

Im not afradi dude, just cant be doing with it, I help (or hindrance) where I can, I just have a strong dislike of flash, most of the time it’s a pointless futile efort at entertainging me, when genraly all it does is waist my time. But hey each to there own.

As for the red eye, just select the red and Image > Adjust > Desaturate.

To avoid red-eye (or white- or yellow- or green-eye in animals) you must move the source of the flash further away from the lens. This is almost impossible unless you have a pro-level camera that will allow you to connect a separate flash unit. Point-and-shoot cameras with a built in flash often have a setting that "pre-flashes" the subject so that their pupil constricts to a smaller diameter before the actual image is recorded. Bright ambient light also helps as well, and will produce a less noise-filled image with digital cameras.
