I just upgraded from 98SE to XP. I have PS 6.0. It worked fine with 98, but I find that it crashes constantly with XP. I increased my scratch disk to 80%, have about 400 mb ram. I don’t know what else to do to get rid of this problem. Help!

I have Photoshop 6.0.1 running with Windows XP Home sp1 – and it all runs really well. I have 512mb of RAM and a 7gb hard drive. If your scratch disk is 80% of the hard drive, might that be the source of your problems? WindowsXP needs some disk space too.

The only Photoshop / WinXP issue I’ve come across is if Photoshop, when being installed, takes over the JPG and TIF file extensions, which WinXP also uses. That can cause Windows Explorer to crash when looking at folder contents as icons, thumbnails or filmstrip but doesn’t bring down the kernel, Windows Explorer will then relaunch itself. The solution is to restore the JPG and TIF file types to Windows Picture and Fax viewer. Open any folder, go to the TOOLS menu, then FOLDER OPTIONS then select the FILE TYPES tab.

John – the whole issue is already addressed in the FAQ topic. Scratch disk has nothing to do with it.
