I was wondering if you could use photoshop as an image capturing program, or how to have images auotmaticlly open in photoshop when you are shooting with a digital camera.

You can not, but there is a work arround.

If you use Breeze Browser to aquire photos with Canon Cameras and have Photostation open, reduced to a strip sitting over Photoshop to the right you can shoot directly into a folder of Fotostation and the picture shows up on the strip from where you can Drag and Drop into PS.
Both demo programs can be dowloaded.
