Windows "critical stop" sound when exiting Photoshop

Yes, just the WIndows wav sound!
Thanks for that tip Dave – tried that – it hasnt helped. I have since changed the sound to something less alarming but I’d still like to get to the botom of it.

Are you sure you haven’t used that same "clunk" .wav to indicate close program?

Er no, cos then every program would end like that. And its only a few. Photoshop

Isn’t there a dialog with some sort of error message when you hear that THUMP.WAV?

If not it’s just an event triggered sound.

A friend of me wanted a recording of Wagner’s Ring Des Niebelungen as a startup sound. (a piece lasting over six hours).

He is still rebooting.

check your event logs. if there’s some kind of error occurring, it should be recorded.

You might also take a note of processes running in Task Manager and compare with what’s running when logged in as administrator. If there are any different ones running under your normal login, you might try stopping them one at a time before closing the affected programs. If the sound stops you have found your culprit.

Good call Fred, will try that. Dave, there are various errors showing up in event logs but nothing that I can interpret.
