I am putting a small image logo in the corner of a bunch of images. The logo is for copyright purposes. The logo file is not in the same file as the ones being batched, but wouldn’t it have to be open to be able to be placed on there correctly?

No.

How are you placing it? Copy/Paste? One way would be to copy the layer to the clipboard before running the action.

Anyway, unless you are batching all open files, it wouldn’t make a difference. Check in your Batch dialog.

I am dragging the logo image onto the larger image for the action. If I copy and paste it, would this work differently?

In the batch, can’t you just copy the logo, then close the logo image? Have you looked at the tutorial, there are several methods outilined, if I recall correctly.

I must be losing my mind. I could swear I answered this about a half hour ago.

But, I would NOT have the Copy step as part of the Batch. Copy to the clipboard first, then run the Batch. Once the data is Copied it can be Pasted infinitely into as many files as you like.

Then, if you wish to position the logo you can use Layer>Align, the Move tool, and/or Transform, and Arrow keys, depending on where you want it to appear. Pasting will always position it in the center.
