Do you have or did you ever have an older version of PS on that computer? If so, search the computer for psicon.dll and rename it psicon.dll.old. Reboot and you should be fine.

You won’t have PSD previews in Windows Explorer, however.

I am using PS CS. More often than not now I am getting this error:

‘Could not save….because the file is already in use or was left open.’

What is up with this error. I can usually get it to save just by trying it again but lately it takes multiple times. After 5 or 6 attempts I get frustrated and just close out and start over. This is especially frustrating if you’ve just done a lot of work and now you will loose it. Any idea what causes this error and how I can fix it short of an uninstall/reinstall? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bob,

Yes I have had older versions of PS on this box. I will do as you suggest. I don’t have PSD previews now so that will not be any loss.
I use compupic for previews as it makes it much easier to search our network drives. Thanks again for the help.

P.S. I’m waiting for you to write a book on all this.

Bob,

Did the search and it did not show up. Not sure what to do now other than requisition some patience and unistall/reinstall. I’m open to other suggestions.

thanks…

Search using advanced options to look for hidden and system files.

Are you saving to a network?

Bob,

Yes I am saving to a network. This problem has just become really prevalent in the last week or so. It was hit or miss but now it’s getting really commonplace. The IT people have been shoring up our network security but I do not know if that would affect my ability to save my files.

That’s not a good idea. Work and save locally and copy to the network when you’re done.

I used to work that way but had a few ‘incidents’ and lost some work. Age and several concussions have made my memory a bit iffy on occasion so I’ve been working directly on the network to avoid more ‘incidents’.

working over the network are where most "incidents" are likely to occur. the operating system has built in checks to make sure a file is copied from the disk to the network. photoshop doesn’t. save locally. copy to the network using windows explorer.
