Hi there, this is probably a stupid question but.. I have photoshop cs2 and was messing around with a really nice photo and then I went and saved some adjustments (poster edges) that I had made to it unintentionally. I then closed the program(!!) Opened it again and discovered that I can’t change it back, would really appreciate some help as its a special photo. thanks!!

Been there, done that. This will never happen again. I promise.

Any chance its digital, and might still be on the card you shot it on? even if you deleted it, some software can retrieve it from the card.

Unfortunetely it was a photo that I put on my computer last year, any memory of it has been wiped from my camera. Is there any way around it? I really appreciate any help given…thanks!!

Sorry, there’s nothing you can do. I suggest always backing up your originals to some removable media if you don’t want to lose them.

And I recommend doing so before working on them.

as soon as i copy my images to my system, before i do anything else, i mark them READ ONLY in the win explorer properties dialog. that way if i ever go to write over an original i get a message from the OS that the file is write protected. a gentle reminder to save it under a new name. saved my bacon on many occasions!

Once you saved the photo the damage became permanent.

I never work on an original. I usually save all those images that are likely to need changes in RAW format. PS only changes the edit instructions to a RAW file even in those
cases where it can write such a file, but I do not rely on such default actions.

Another way is to create layers for the work you wish to accomplish. All you would need to do in such a case is delete the layer. Even when using layers, I always save the file
to a different name with layers setup and ready for editing before I do any work.

Fern, i cannot guarantee finding those images on your card, but i have seen cards that have been cleared dozens of times still have those images on them. i do not know how it works really, but recovery software is fairly cheap to give it a try. best of luck. look at this link.
