Suddenly, I find PhotoShop CS2 will not open Canon CR2 RAW files. Instead, an error message pops up "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document". I find CR2 files are processed and open in ACDSee 9.0. Trying to open from Windows Explorer, File-Open in PhotoShop, or to "open in editor" in ACDSee 9.0 all result in the same error message.

One possible clue is that this started after I downloaded Capture One LE from Phaseone. Uninstalling this has not helped.

Repairing PhotoShop from the installation disk has not helped.

Will uninstalling and then fully reinstalling Photoshop solve this problem?

Maybe the Adobe Camera Raw plugin is hosed. Get ACR 3.7 here:

Thanks for your advice, Rob. I have just downloaded the ACR 3.7 as you suggested, and following the instructions on the web site, replaced the original plugin. Now, I can open CR2 files once again. I am still puzzled why the CS2 repair from disk did not work.

I am still puzzled why the CS2 repair from disk did not work.

That could be caused by the ACR version on your installation disk being an older version that doesn’t support your camera model.

Otherwise, glad it works again!
