I am using an Epson 2200 and at times have used the printer for picking the colors and at times Photoshop. I am using CS2. I am interested in what others are finding works best for them.
It is not clear if you understand the difference between using the printer driver settings to control color versus having Photoshop control the color. In order to get prints that consistently are a reasonable match for what you see on your monitor on the first trial print you need to use color management. You can tweak settings further but once you understand the process usually the first print will be nearly optimal. Clearly this is a great savings on paper, ink and personal stress. If you do not understand color managed printing google the term and there are many good tutorials on the web to explain the process.
