Hi,
I referred to Pantone knowledge base and found some interesting answer for a good question that may contribute in giving an idea about the difference in Pantone designations, and why sometimes we suffer variations:

Dfference between C, CV, CVC and CVU
Question
Please tell me what the difference is between the PANTONE C, CV and CVC. We are working on MAC computers and when we ask for a conversion to CMYK, we get different process values for each of these. Thank you.
Answer
"CV" = computer video. This designation is used to denote that a color is an electronic simulation of a PANTONE Color. It is used in software applications that license PANTONE Colors, e.g., Adobe Illustrator, FreeHand, QuarkXPress, Adobe Photoshop, etc.
"CVC" = computer video, coated paper. This denotes electronic simulation of the color specifically as it appears on coated paper; "CVU" does the same on uncoated paper.
Please note that, going forward, all software application programs that support PANTONE Colors will be utilizing suffix designations that are exactly consistent with the PANTONE Publications. Following is a list of designations that will be in use:
C = coated paper
U = uncoated paper
M = matte coated paper
PC = process simulation, coated paper (PANTONE solid to process library only)
The above designations are currently used in the following application programs:
Adobe Photoshop 7
Adobe Illustrator 10
QuarkXPress 5
CorelDRAW 11
Earlier versions may use different designations for the PANTONE Colors, and will likely contain older PANTONE Libraries with different CMYK simulation values.
Thank you for using AskPantone.com.
