Hello there,

Does anybody know how I can make the following effect: < http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o20/coxdabd/1540739023_ma in_bg_4956.gif>

I would like to know how to make the test appear ‘rough’ and how to make the lines…am I right in presuming with the lines I need to play with patterns and blending modes?

Mainly, it’s just the text I would like to recreate.

All the best,

Kristopher (UK).

That is where I would start.

There are probably some tutorials on "distressed text" on Google that could get you what you need for the text.

I’d distress the text in Illy and then bring it into Photoshop to finish it.

Hello there,

I’ve played around with some blending layers, created the diagonal lines using Fireworks and distressed the font using a brush that I made from a very dirty and broken walkk. I’m quite impressed at the similarity of them.

The image I created can be viewed by visiting: <http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o20/coxdabd/main_bg.gif>

Thank you all.

All the best,

Kristopher (UK).

Good job Kris. The best way to learn PS is to cool copy things you like, and somewhere down the road you will grow into your own style.

Mimicking the techniques of others helps you learn the chops.

When you know the functions as well as your own signature, then you just work, and perform those common techniques without even thinking about it.

Show of hands: How many people here replicated the drawings and techniques by studying Gray’s Anatomy? (full text online) <http://www.bartleby.com/107/> I know I did. Same logic.

(Too bad I still stink at drawing the human form!)

re: grays anatomy:

I guess that’s where I need to start. Remember that one drawing I was trying to do, Phos? I believe I showed it to you at the very beginning of the process. Well, I got stumped. Perhaps mimicking trying to do the grays anatomy drawings to get more of a feel for the human body and all the curves n such.

I think I’ll go ahead and try the other approach too. Kris did a really good job with his try. 😀

Lizerie…

When you understand how all the underlying bones and musculature fit together, it makes more sense that you should be able to draw the human form better.

Still, it’s a life-full of practice. I got lazy.

Yeap. I mean, I was really good at doing it in Science class. I was meticulous with details back then to the point where my drawings were used by the science teachers for quizzes n stuff. I’m sure with more practice, and remembering the bone/muscle correlations, etc., I can finish that piece to suit my eye. 😀
