I’ve seen footage on youtube and other sources where people have sped up recording of their work in progress. For example: <http://youtube.com/watch?v=y14g50q4hQ0>

I believe it is called speed painting. My question… how do they record what they are doing? Are they using a camcorder? Is there an another way to record what you are doing with the program?

Also, does anyone know of any tutorials on doing the kind of art they are doing? I’d like to take my hand at it, but have no clue where to start in regard to researching the techniques and such.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

There are various programs that will record what’s going on while you work. Camtasia is one.

As for learning the techniques, maybe someone who does this sort of thing could tell you where to start.

One thing is certain – it’s neither quick nor easy!

I’ve used Camtasia quite extensively and using such software does present interesting problems.

Only one rule applies make sure you know exactly what you are doing, practice because you don’t notice how many timees you foget and pres the incorrect key and make a spelling mistake or select file instead of edit.

These all show up in camtasia and other software and they do make you look amateurish

cheers

….Aha! Perhaps that is why the videos are sped up, to hide the details that reveal an editing error.

I wonder if you can pause the footage. I have seen videos where you see the windows and mouse cursor, and other videos where there isn’t any of that. Maybe they edit that out using a NLE like Premiere Pro…..

I am really digging watching speed painting on youtube. There are some very talented people on there!!!

I don’t mind the time factor. It is kinda weird. The longer it takes the more it feels like it is worth it. Does that make ANY sense? LOL

It’s def been edited at least as far as speeding it up goes, so why not just drop the mistakes at the same time.

Camtasia is a good piece of software, it is used at Latrobe university for a few different apps by the academics. For Mac I’ve use IShowU which will do just about everything you would need to do and is only about $20US for a couple of projects.

Slightly off-topic, but this subject put me in mind of this nifty Flash animation: < http://alanbecker.deviantart.com/art/Animator-vs-Animation-3 4244097>
