Hi,
Can you help. I have a clip I’d like to alter. I take my clip from Premiere CS3 and cut and paste into an After Effects composition. I then import a frame from this into Photoshop then add a layer and paint over a background object. Next I use the rectangular marquee to define an area which includes the painted out object and cut and paste this defined area into a new layer. However when I observe the new layer I’m still looking at the entire image, not just the defined section, how do I look at just the area I defined? as I would then like to import this section back into After Effects as a .jpg for incorporation with motion tracking. However when I do this it imports the entire picture, not just the small section I define with the rectangular marquee. Please advise on how to define and import only that small section of the layer if you can assist.
Many Thanks,
Jarrod.

Not sure I understand what you are doing, but….

Turn off visibility (click the eye) on the original layer. Then you should be able to see the part of the image you want. Does that work for you? Do you need just that one layer?

Make a new file from the selected part of the image. There are a few ways to do this depending on the structure of the file. Duplicate Layer is one. Copy Merged and then Paste into a new document is another.

Thanks Ed,
I can hear the Space 2001 music in the background now. I will try this later tonight and recon’ that this is the simple trick I was overlooking. I’ll let you know how it goes but think, or hope, this was the issue. May you’re RAM impress the girls, many thanks.
