Can Photoshop CS open files created in later versions of Photoshop? If not, is it possible to save down a "Legacy" version in CS2 or CS3 like you can with Illustrator?

Thanks in advance for any help 🙂

Mike,

I see no way to save a legacy version of a CS2 or CS3 file, but there is a "maximize compatiblity" option that both CS2 and CS3 can use to help improve compatibility with older versions of PS. There do remain limitations however, such as when you employ features such as Smart Objects (CS2/CS3) or Smart Filters (CS3) that earlier versions do not support. In such cases, you may lose the editable layers supported by those features and only get a merged image. There may be other features also that get lost, but this is one obvious example.

Regards,

Daryl
