I have done searches all over the internet and it would appear that within the last week I am not alone in the phenomenia. Everything was/is working just fine but when I go to click Save AS, Photoshop locks up. This just started today. I haven’t done anything to my system including updates or recent installs. When i check Windows Task Manager it reports that Photoshops status is Running…What is up??? I’ve reset preferences, killed of a bunch of .tmp files, you name it. I have read others doing everything under the sun including re-installing without a fix. I’m trying to meet a dead line and it looks like i’m dead in the water…

You’ll need to provide details about your hardware & processor; OS version; Total RAM installed; Amount of RAM dedicated to Photoshop; Total Hard Drive space and the amount of free space available; what else you may have running at the same time, etc.

More info is better than the alternative.

I have a P4 with 4gigs of Ram, 2 internal hard drives ( C has about 37 gigs free and 2nd hard drive has about 375 gigs free). O/S is XP Pro Service pack 2. I have had CS3 for several months with no issues. In fact I’ve been working 10 hours a day on it w/ PS with no issues. What is amazing is that I haven’t installed any updates or software…basically nothing has happened to cause this situation, it just happened. P S works fine with the only exception as to when i click Save As then the system is frozen. I’ve shut down other programs. PS is installed on the C drive in Program Files. My memory allocation is set at 70% and my scratch disks are on my 2nd internal hard drive. I have played around with all types of settings with no success.

I also tried looking up "dialog box is missing" and with out having to re-install nothing seems to work. Plus the info on "dialog box is missing didn’t really list my situation.

For me, the fix was related to the monitor. Not so much the resolution setting as suggested in the FAQ, but rather it was related to my video card software. I use an ATI card that loads an app called HydraVision. It is suppose to control window opacity and silly things like that as well as giving you access to the video card features from within any title bar. I always have this software disabled. For some reason, I found that it was loaded in memory and it prevented any dialog box from appearing. Once I disabled it again – everything returned to normal.

Robin…do you have ‘Enable Version Cue’ checked in the PS Preferences dialogue (it is on by default). There have problems with this. I had the same problem as you though it was present from the outset and didn’t start after working for months. Anyway, unchecking the box in preferences (ie, disabling Version Cue) worked for me….there are references to this on the internet. See if it works for you!

there should be a link to hydravision in an ati folder in your start menu, if you have it. also try looking in the control panel.

Robin, I am glad it worked. I wasted innumerable hours with CS3 dead in the water until I finally gave up, uninstalled it, and decided to stay with CS2. Yesterday, I Googled the problem once again and came up with the Version Cue solution. Just last night I decided to give it a whirl and reinstalled CS3 and with unchecking version cue it worked perfectly. It seems like there have been others with the same problem on both Windows and Mac. Glad it worked.
