Did you ever find a way to get passed this problem? I am having the exact same problem! But I have 2045 MB of ram which should be plenty but I get the same error message:

"A problem occurred while extracting some files. Check available space on your computer and the write privileges on the destination folder."

I have a brand new Dell Optiplex computer and its running with Windows Vista Business Edition. I’m just trying to install Adobe CS3 that I just purchased but it will not let me do it even though I have plenty of space and I am using the administrator account. I have read all the forums and have tried everything except a reformat which I’m not willing to do.. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!

Some hints that may assist:
1. Turn off any antivirus protection. Dells typically come with a free starter subscription to Norton, which will consume way more resources than is reasonable and may also interfere with the installation directly. (If you are connected to the Internet without a router, disconnect first.)
2. Copy the entire contents of the install disk to a new directory in the root of a drive, such as C:\Adobe or D:\Adobe.
3. Start->Run, type "cmd", and OK. In the command window, type "regsvr32 jscript.dll" and press Enter. When a dialog box with the message "DllRegisterServer in jscript.dll succeeded" appears, click OK. (When typing the commands, don’t type the quotation marks.) Close the command window.
4. Open task manager (Ctrl+shift+Esc), click on Processes tab, and end any processes running Firefox or IExplorer. Close the task manager. Now open Windows Explorer (My computer) to the directory where you copied the CD/DVD contents. Navigate to the subfolder containing the Setup.exe for Photoshop CS3. Double-click on Setup.exe. (If the progress bar seems to stick in one place, have a coffee. If need be, have several, or have a beer or Scotch or two. It will eventually move on.)
