Hello all,
Seemingly the result of some recent Windows Vista updates, I found that my classic Start Menu was opening to the left of the Start button rather than what I think of as being directly above the button. Given that I run a dual-monitor configuration with my secondary monitor to the left of my primary, the primary being where Start Menu and Task bar reside, what this meant was that the Start Menu would launch on my secondary monitor. I found that rather annoying as well as inconvenient for the times when I’ve turned off my secondary monitor (more power hungry CRT). The default Vista start menu doesn’t exhibit such behavior and stays on the primary monitor.
After digging around and searching for a solution online, I finally came across the Tablet PC Settings control panel applet, where you can specify a right- or left-handed menu behavior. The definitions seem reversed to me (right-handed menus appear to the left of your writing hand, left-handed menus appear to the right), but by selecting the left-handed option, this right-handed user found the menus would then behave as they were originally, and the Start Menu stayed on my primary monitor.
So, should you stumble across the same issue, there’s the solution.
