when working with large files and saving or croping or resizing or whatever CS3 gives the "not responding" message at the top of the page. This happens post photomerge with large files.

I have Duo Core PC with 2G RAM and a 2.6GHz processor and plenty of HD space and running nothing, save Vista, in the background. I have allocated 85% to CS3. Task Manager indicates CS3 is running.

What’s going on and should I worry?

First of all, 85% tends to allocate too much RAM to PS.
Doing this tends to have serious consequences.

Your problem seems to me that PS is hung while it is waiting for some disk access to complete. The 85% RAM can leave Windows with inadequate memory for required buffers.

My first action would be to reduce the amount of RAM allocated to PS to 55%.
