Hello,

I purchased the full version CS1 years ago and then upgraded to CS3 on my primary desktop. I’ve read that you can legally install Photoshop on a secondary PC (e.g. my laptop). Can I do this with my CS3 upgrade serial number, and more importantly: My primary PC is Microsoft XP, but I’m thinking of buying an Apple MacBook Pro laptop for my secondary PC. Would I be able to load the trial Photoshop CS3 version on the MAC and still use my same Microsoft serial number to activate legally?

Thanks,
Mike

You’d need to install Windows on the Mac to do that.

The serial numbers are different for PC and Mac. Currently, there is no licensing program that lets you use Photoshop concurrently on PC and Mac under a single license. This may change in the future — Lightroom allows it, for example.

This is an interesting question, and one I haven’t heard much discussion about, if any. (surely this has been hashed about elsewhere, but I haven’t seen it)

Taking Mike’s intended scenario into the equation, IF he has a Windows version of PS on his desktop system, and THEN he buys a MacBook, and installs the Windows OS and uses it through BootCamp or Parallels, it seems to me that he should be able to activate that second instance of his PS license inside Windows on the MacBook.

Hmm…Will his desktop system’s serial number for Photoshop work?

In that scenario it should be fine. My response was based on wanting to run it under OSX.

Right. That should work, because the person would be using the Windows version under Windows (albeit running under OSX via Parallels or booted into Windows via Bootcamp).
