Hi all, I’m an amateur airbrush artist (wow that sounds posh!) I used to have photo shop, I think it was 6, mayhap 7. Anyway that’s not important. What is important is, I don’t really know which program to choose. I do a bit of super-imposing, altering life photos, and air brushing models/people. Ideally I don’t want anything more than I need yet, so minimal price. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!
Also if I do end up with a higher priced program, is there finance options? Thanks
Az

If you’re on a budget, I suggest Photoshop Elements 5.0.

Az,

For what it’s worth and while Photoshop Elements 5 (US $70) may well be all that you need, since you say you "used to have Photoshop", I would encourage you to locate and identify what version it is. Well, unless "used to have" means you transferred your license to someone else or gave it away with a PC, not realizing the license transfer obligations. In any case, if you actually do still have Photoshop and can confirm it to be Photoshop 7, then that is the oldest qualifying version for an upgrade to the current Photoshop CS3 (US $196 or US $339 for PS CS3 Extended) and CS3 will be your last opportunity to upgrade rather than paying the price for a full version (CS3 is US $630. CS3 Extemded is US $970…figure the same or more for CS4 when issued). While Photoshop Elements is a very capable editing package and has some nice features uniquely its own, if you have any reason to think you might want to go with Photoshop itself at some later point and you do have PS7, then I think you’d come out ahead to go with the CS3 upgrade right now.

Thanks, I wish I could locate it, but my old PC was stolen, (hence the extreme budget.) So if I was to get elements I wouldntt be elegable for upgrading?

If you registered your old version of Photoshop, call Adobe customer service. They may have a way for you to install the upgrade without actually having a physical copy in your possession.

Az,

Don’t misunderstand this as a challenge of what you said…but if only your PC was stolen, don’t you still have the installation CD somewhere? I recognize however that theft of one item could include theft of many, software CDs inclusive. If you did register your copy of PS, John’s advice is the direction to go in the absence of having an installation CD. As for Photoshop Elements, it is good for a $100 discount off the full price of Photoshop, according to Adobe’s info about upgrade eligibility. Better than nothing, and more than what was paid for PS Elements itself, but an actual PS license upgrade is the least expensive upgrade path.

Daryl

No worries, the whole house was done over. As for regestering, it was my uncle that set the PC up and installed the programs. So i cant be sure if it was regestered. Thanks for the info about elements. I’ll have a word with adobe and see what they can do. If nothing, then elements it is for now.
Thanks for the help!!!
