For school I have to take two animals and turn them into 1 new animal kinda like this: www.olympictrans.ru/fun/img/uglyZoo/
I was wondering if you have any advice or maybe a tutiorial somewhere wich will help me with that I want to make something that looks good but untill now all I seem to be getting are cheap fakes.

Layer masks might help to blend multiple images. But what it comes down to is ability and talent. Without seeing what you have done no one can tell where you are in those departments.

By the looks of it, the person who did those is very skilled in masking and combining photos. I don’t know of a shortcut to this level of skill.

Practice, practice, practice.

A good portion of those were stolen from Worth1000.com, ask over there how they were done.

Four things that can help:

1) Choose something with matching colors, or as close as you can possibly get. Tweak either image, or both, to get them to match before you start blending them;

2) Choose images with flatter lighting, no distinct shadows or bright patches. This way you don’t have mismatching lighting, one of the best ways to make something look fake;

3) Only blend in the details you need, and whenever possible, use details that already have a ‘seam’ or contrast of some kind naturally. For instance, the dog with the bird beak only needed the beak added, and beaks are already different in appearance and texture. We’re used to seeing that, so it doesn’t look odd;

4) Blend very gently, feathered selections or very soft brushes on the masks. Follow contours wherever possible.

Good luck with it!
