I am editing another Photoshop designer’s work.*

I am receiving an error message when I click on the square to be edited. I simply want to change the color of the square.

The error message is "Could not select a layer because the point you selected is not inside the vector mask of a visible layer."

I am confused because – the layer looks like a simple layer – I do not see where the vector mask has been added to it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sheila

Sounds to me like you either a layer with a vector mask or a Shape layer which has the eye (visibility) turned off. Or it’s turned on but you are trying to select on another layer with a Path selection tool.

Sheila,
To change a vector shape’s color double-click the layer thumbnail (and not the mask mumbnail) in the Layers palette.
