I have a graphic with a .wpg extension. It was done in the WordPerfect Office Suite and now I want to import it into Photoshop so I can save it as a .tiff for future placement in other documents. I am using Windows XP, Photoshop CS2, Illustrator CS2, PageMaker 7 and InDesign CS2.

How do I change the extension of the graphic so that Photoshop, etc. can read the graphic? Thanks for help.

Are you able to re-export the graphic in a less proprietary format, such as TIFF, PNG, JPG or PDF?

Irfanview can open a lot of less common image formats. If it worked, you could re-save it.

XnView (free) will open wpg files.

It’s probably a vector graphic. It can, of course, be opened in CorelDraw and saved in a format that suits for Photoshop (if you have access to CorelDraw).

Trez neglected to read reply #1.

But that’s OK. Nobody ever reads reply #1.

I was about to do a mea culpa, but on considering I believe I offered an alternative that may be more useful than WordPerfect, since I cannot find that it exports graphics in any form other than its native .wpg, while CorelDraw offers many alternatives. In any event, I hope that among our responses the OP will find something helpful.

So you see, I did read #1…

Thanks for suggestions. I don’t have Corel Draw. I can open wpg graphic in WordPerfect Presentations slide show. 1)If I copy graphic and then paste it into Photoshop, nothing appears in Photoshop. 2) I can save it as a tiff in Presentations. In Photoshop — if I just open the tiff — no image appears. If I create a new Photoshop document and place the tiff I get a square with handles at all four corners and in the middle of the square plus 2 diagonal lines with some mark showing the center — but no image. 3) If I save it as encapsulated postscript eps file and place it in PageMaker7 — all I get is a big black square. Photoshop asks to rasterize the generic eps format and I get a black square. 4) If I save it as a jpg in Presentations and then bring it into Photoshop, I get a square with handles at corners and in the middle; also with diagonal lines with center mark, but no image. Sorry this post is so long. If I open new document in PageMaker7 and place graphic, I just see handles but no graphic.
However, the link information shows the name of the tiff.

I opened graphic in Wordperfect and saved it both as a WordPerfect document and a Word 2003 document. In Photoshop I tried to place each file but got message "could not place the document because no parser or file format can open the file.

What is a "parser"?

Thanks again for help.

Marjorie,

What is a "parser"?<<

In this case an input filter for files of that format. The parser is what makes sense on the data in a file and converts it to a stream of data that the opening application can use.
