Is there any reason why this is so, and also, how do I correct it?
you need to install from the disc.
Yes, I understand that would be the easiest way, but I do not have the disk anymore. That is why I am asking if there is another way to transfer the program between the two machines, and why my personalization info is not going with my original version from the original computer. Any thoughts?
Licensing information is stored in a way that cannot be transferred that way If you don’t have the disk call Adobe. If the copy of Photoshop was registered you should have no problem.
but I do not have the disk anymore
where is it?
It was lost with many other computer equipment during a move. I shall have to call Adobe with the number that is on the original desktop copy, I suppose. Well, that stinks! I was so hoping to be able to use it on the laptop.
Do you have a friend or colleague with CS? If it’s the same version (full, upgrade, academic) he/she could make a copy for you.

I doubt it they could help you with cs which is 2 vers. back. but as long as you registered, you’d qualify for an upgrade. with disc in hand you can install it on up to two computers as long as you only used one copy at a time.
Kate,
While it’s certainly worth pursuing a replacement CD for PS CS, note also that you’re talking of installing it on a Windows Vista PC. That may work fine, but there is no assurance of compatiblity, as also is true for PS CS2, although I personally have CS2 running without problems on Vista. Should you go to PS CS3 via an upgrade, be aware also that it requires Windows Vista Home Premium as a minimum requirement.
Oh, and if you should obtain a copy of the CD, an upgrade CD would require the installation disc from a prior version to validate the installation. So that route will not be of much help without 2 CDs or an existing installation of a prior PS version to be located on your system as an alternative for validation.
