Hi

I’ve been trying to get the "Save For Web" JPG alpha channel optimisation feature in Photoshop 6 to work as expected but it won’t. Is there a known bug? The results are at best disappointing, at worst unusable. Please help – I’ve spent several hours on this and have exhausted most possibilities.

Regards

Chvies

Hi Chvies,

There is NO alpha channel support in JPG. You can never expect such a thing! But you may try first with GIF then PNG to save the mask you want.

You didn’t understand the question. You can use an image with an alpha channel and choose "Save for web" to save that image (of course without the alpha channel) as a JPEG. However, you can use the alpha channel in the "Save for web" dialog to set different compression ratios for different parts of the image. I’m not sure this feature is already present in Photoshop 6 though. I think it was introduced in Photoshop 7.

Hi Johan,

Yes you are right! I misunderstood the question, cuz I WASN’T aware of that feature. Thank you very much for bringing that to my attention. Indeed it is available in Photoshop 7, and it is cool!
