I’m using Photoshop CS3 extended (working through a Scott Kelby tutorial in "The Adobe Photoshop CS3 book" quadtoning for richer B&W’s, page 334), and was trying to load duotone options and when I go to select the preset…no files are visible! When I go into windows explorer I can see the .ADO files in their respective folders…however, when I open the LOAD preset window, only .ADO files are selectable and I don’t see the duotone, quadtones, or tritones folders. Is this a bug? I’m using XP Media Edition on a reasonably robust desktop dell. Otherwise CS3 works great. Any info appreciated.

Thanks, Vance

Vance:

I am having the same problem. I do not understand your solution. {Creating folders, using the load preset window) duh?

Hi Merrill, let me try to explain better.
1. first open "mycomputer" or explorer and navigate to where the folders are…probably C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Presets\Duotones. You should be able to see the .ado preset files there (even though you can’t "see" them in photoshop.
2. Open a test photo and change mode to grayscale. Then change mode to Duotone.
3. That will open the Duotone options window. Select "load". That will open the "Load" window where you should be able to see (but can’t) the various Duotones folders as they look in "mycomputer" or explorer.
4. Create 3 folders in the "Load" photoshop window by clicking on the new folder icon…name them as they are visible in explorer. They are:
Duotones, Tritones and Quadtones. You might just want to do Quadtones as these seem to be the only ones I find truly rich and worth the time…but nevertheless..
5. Create subfolders as noted in explorer.
6. Copy the .ado files in "mycomputer" or explorer and paste in appropriate folders (in the "load" window).

Then try to apply one of the .ado duotone presets and photoshop should be able to deal with it.

I hope that works for you.

Hi Vance,

I was doing the exact seem lesson (working through a Scott Kelby tutorial in "The Adobe Photoshop CS3 book" quadtoning for richer B&W’s, page 334) and I had the same problem. I thought about re-installing my software but I could easily find the duotone presets. I didn’t know how to solve this problem. Searching the internet, I found your post. I did what you said and that did it. Many thanks.
