I am decently new to Photoshop, so bear with me here.

How do you go about making images transparent (while you can still see the image)?

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, basically, how do you make an image transparent so you can see the background through it, but still see the image?

Thanks!

Play with the Opacity slider at the top of the Layers Palette.

Hi Taylor,

There are 2 answers depending on what you want to do.

One. To make a whole picture ( or layer, really) look transparent. First put it on a layer above the background and then use the opacity slider in the Layers dialog to make it slowly go transparent. Used for example a picture of a garden through a window where there is a reflection of a face on the window. The garden is the background and the window & face are the foreground

two. If you want only part of the background to show through a foreground image. First put the foreground image on a layer above the back ground and then erase the bits of the foreground image where you want the background to show through. The eraser only works on 1 layer at a time so make sure the foreground layer is selected. Used for example in putting a picture of a car in a street scene. The car is on the foreground layer and the street scene is on the background

Also play with the hard light setting after reducing transparency.
